Ring The Bells @ 6 PM Each Night

Lieutenant Governor Delbert Hosemann is asking all Mississippi churches and families to ring their bells at 6 p.m. this evening and at the same time each following evening through the end of Gov. Reeves’ statewide shelter-in-place order on April 20.

The bells will ring out in support of front line workers in the COVID-19 crisis and in prayer for those who are sick at home and in hospitals. The bells will also ring as an indication of unity of purpose and spirit among all Mississippians.

On Friday, we sent a letter to church leaders throughout Mississippi asking them to ring their church bells every day at 6 p.m. for one minute beginning on Monday, April 6, and ending on April 20, the day the current shelter-in-place order ends. We asked them to do this in gratitude for our healthcare workers on the front lines and in prayer for those who are sick. We also asked citizens to join in by ringing their bells, honking their horns, or otherwise making a joyful noise in their front yards.

The response has been nothing short of amazing, with our post on Facebook shared almost 9,000 times, reaching more than 378,000 Mississippians.

If you are able, please join us in sound and spirit at 6 p.m. tonight, Monday, April 6, by ringing your bell. We can get through this together, even if it requires us to be apart for now.
