Richard was a man that never did anything half-way.  He was often told that he had two speeds – off and wide open.  He loved life, his family, and he loved Jesus.  At the time of his death, he was a member of White Oak Baptist Church, where he served a Deacon and Sound Technician.

As a youngster, he dreamed of being a Cowboy.  He ran away to Texas at the age of 11 to be one, but he only made it to Baton Rouge before he got caught.  This dream was fulfilled when he retired and bought cows.

He loved boxing and turned that love into teaching boys, and even a girl or two, the fundamentals and skills of boxing.  Several of his students won National Titles.  Richard, himself, was elected into the USA Southern Association Coaches Hall of Fame in 2008, after winning several coaching awards over the years.  He also enjoyed coon hunting, squirrel hunting, deer hunting, and fishing with his children, grandchildren, and cousins.

For many years he was an avid golfer and was able to get paid for it.  He retired as the Director of the Pearl Golf Course in 2009.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard E. Archer, Sr.; mother, Ludie Mae Thompson Archer; brother, Harold Archer; and sister, Janice Walker.

Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-three years, Debbie Womack Archer of White Oak, MS; one son, Trey Archer of White Oak, MS; two daughters, Kelly Archer Nichols (Scott) of Brandon, MS and Lacey Archer Knauss (Jerry Rawson) of Florence, MS; six grandchildren, Erica Nichols McKinley (Lance) of Brandon, MS, Brian Nichols (Taylor) of Vicksburg, MS, Alyse Nichols Yates (Jesse) of Terry, MS, Clarissa Nichols Pearson (Nick) of Jackson, MS, Brandtly Davis of Florence, MS and Gahvin Davis of Florence, MS; nine great grandchildren, Mason Brown of Brandon, MS, Maverick Miller of Brandon, MS, Adalen Miller of Brandon, MS, Harper McKinley of Brandon, MS, Avery McKinley of Brandon, MS, Camden Nichols of Vicksburg, MS, Colton Nichols of Vicksburg, MS, Cason Nichols of Vicksburg, MS and Layla Nichols of Brandon, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
