**** After a little investigating, I found out some interesting info concerning the upkeep of our streets.  The area around the bottom of the trees on Main Street are trimmed every two weeks.  That particular tree and one other has two trucks that are parked and left everyday in front of those trees creating a situation where those spots can not be trimmed on the regular schedule.  Someone is bringing their garbage to town and dumping it in a particular trash can on Main Street every week which is against the law.  Our Mayor Jimmy Clyde  has picked up trash on Main Street every Saturday morning for the past twelve years!  Efforts are being made to keep our Main Street appealing….again, let’s do our part.

One of the “promises” made by every candidate who ran for office was “we will promote the cleanup of Magee!”  Ok, I’m holding ya’ll to that promise!

Wednesday, I was contacted by a business property owner in Magee.  Although the man does not reside in Magee, he does own property not only downtown but in the county.

He brought a prospective buyer to look at the building he has for sale on Main Street.  When he exited his car, he was met with a mess; trash, plants growing through the sidewalk, weeds around the trees…not a pleasant site for someone who is considering purchasing a building on Main Street. He had no idea that Main Street was so messy.

I’m just saying, the new Mayor and Board cannot do it all!  We as citizens must step up and take care of our own property.  As business owners, we must be aware of our surroundings and not always look to others to “pick up the trash.”

A few weeks ago, I was at the Sportsplex.  I was appalled at the young people and adults who just threw their trash on the ground!  My goodness!  How can we expect our public places to be clean if we do not set good examples…and do what we are supposed to do.

Let’s take pride in our city.  I can’t mow the median on the highway.  But, I can mow my own yard and pick up the trash down the side of my house that people throw out of their cars or toss as they are walking.

Let’s don’t be too quick to point fingers at others.  Look around…is their trash that needs picking up…well, pick it up.  Our city officials have every intention of getting behind a “clean- up” Magee.  Let’s be sure we can be counted on for our part.
