Over- turned Tanker Truck Leaking Gas on Highway 49 North

Highway 49 was opened around 9:00 PM Monday night following the tanker truck accident.  City police & firemen in addition to the Simpson County Sheriff’s Department worked the wreck until late Monday night.  The truck was hauling unleaded gasoline.  All gas remaining on the over turned truck had to be transferred to another tanker.  Following the up -righting of the truck, the remainder of the highway was cleaned allowing both south and north bound lanes to open.  The driver of the truck was taken to UMMC.

A tanker loaded with gas has over-turned on Highway 49 North near the old Fire Tower. The truck is leaking gas. Traffic is halted and will be rerouted. The area will be evacuated. DEQ has been contacted. (New Galilee Road). The truck is owned by Texas TransEastern and carrying 8,500 gallons of unleaded gasoline.  Only one of the four compartments is confirmed leaking.
