A new seated board took the realms Monday, January 6, 2019 for the first Board of Supervisors Meeting.
First order of business for the new board was to elect officers. Danny Craft Supervisor District 2 was selected as President and Randy Moore Supervisor District 5 was selected as Vice President.
All current county employees and county officials were re-appointed to their perspective positions.
Buddy Woolverton, County Engineer, presented the following report.
- Project ERBR-STP/BR-0064 (23) B – Heed Neely Road Bridge
- 90% complete
- 90% elapse time
- Contractor completed bridge, approaches with guardrails and grassed the site. Wet weather is hampering completions of roadway dirt work. Will conduct a final inspection once contractor has roadway stabilized.
- LSBP-64(22) Jake Barnes Road
- 25 % Completed
- 57% Elapse time
- Contractor cleared and grubbed project site, removed existing bridge, and driven piles in bents #1, #2, #3 and #4. Utilities have been relocated. Awaiting contractor’s concrete crew to start on bridge.
- ERBR-64(02) Rockport – New Hebron Road (Bridge Rehabilitation Project)
- 88% completed
- 82% elapsed time
- Contractor has completed the bridge. Working on approaches.
Sheriff Paul Mullins presented the following report that was approved.
- Hire James Ingles as a certified Jail Administrator
- Reassign Fred Williams as a School Liaison Officer
- Increase Roger Collier to a certified full-time jailer
- Move Brittany Walker Dispatch from Full-time to part-time.
- Hire Kristen Chantell Meadows as a dispatch
- Hire Tony Herrin as a new part-time dispatcher.
- Board approved the 2020 MS Sheriff’s Association Dues in the amount of $1000.00
- Board approved surplus items from Rankin County to be added to Simpson County inventory.
Sheriff Mullins presented a missing equipment and property list from sheriff’s department to be made part of the minutes.
Sheriff Mullins advised the board that all current employees were re-hired on a 6-month probation period.
The Board approved the County Administrator Rhuel Dickinson the authority to
- Approval travel and training for all departments.
- Approve the lowest and best quotation bids for purchases over $5,000.00 but not over $50,000 in accordance with Section 31-7-13(b)
- Approve purchases on State Contract or the ITS Express Products listing.
- Approve declarations of local emergency.
- ‘Approve county credit card usage in accordance with Board policy.
- Approve reimbursement of damage claims for rock or other road damage to private vehicles.
- Approve the refunds of overpayments for solid waste accounts.
- Approve the reimbursement of minor damage events for solid waste accounts.
