Last week, I announced the masterful James Davis has “allowed” me to share his devotions on MageeNews.com.
I promised a biography…and here it is!
I was born May 18, 1945, in an old farmhouse seven miles out from Waynesboro, Mississippi. We were a farming family and lived there until 1951, when our family moved to Simpson County and, specifically, to the Martinville Community.
I graduated from Magee High School in 1963, attended Copiah-Lincoln Junior College, and graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1967 with a degree in English, subsequently earning my Master’s Degree from U. S. M. a few years later.
I did my student teaching at Magee High School, then taught English for several years at Harrison Central High School on the Gulf Coast. After marriage, we moved back to Simpson County, where I taught English at Mendenhall High School and was an adjunct professor, teaching night classes, for Copiah-Lincoln Junior College for 14 years.
In the interim, I changed professions and began working on U. S. Senator Thad Cochran’s staff in 1978, where I remained for almost 30 years, retiring on January 1, 2005.
I have a son and daughter-in-law and twin grandchildren who are now 18 and into their senior year at Slidell High School.
I enjoy reading, serving as church pianist (now into my 65th year), keeping in touch with close friends and my small family, and generally remaining active and vital. At this stage of life (now 77 years of age), I echo what my late-mother used to say, “When I cease being interested in things around me, go ahead and start digging!”
