Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gipson Promotes Mississippi Christmas Trees
JACKSON, Miss. – This holiday season, Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson encourages those celebrating Christmas to support our farmers and make this year a “Genuine Mississippi” Christmas by purchasing a Mississippi-grown tree.
“This year, I’m encouraging families to celebrate the season in true ‘Genuine Mississippi’ fashion by choosing a tree grown right here at home,” said Commissioner Gipson. “Our team at the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce has made it simple to find a fresh, real Christmas tree. Just head to MSChristmasTrees.com to browse a full list of farms across the state and learn about the types of trees grown in Mississippi, as well as helpful tips for keeping your tree healthy throughout the holidays.”
Mississippi is home to nearly 30 Christmas tree farms statewide. Every year, Mississippi Christmas tree farms grow thousands of Christmas trees, from the popular Leyland cypress to the Eastern redcedar. Real Christmas trees are biodegradable and environmentally friendly. When individuals purchase a real, Mississippi-grown tree, they are also supporting our farmers, our local communities and our state’s economy.
“Many of these local Christmas tree farms offer family-friendly experiences for you and your loved ones beyond selecting a tree. Visitors can enjoy hot chocolate stations, Christmas lights and attractions, wagon rides, family photo-opportunities and more to make this holiday season special,” Commissioner Gipson continued. “So, I invite everyone to visit a Christmas tree farm near them, bring the family, and start a tradition you’ll look forward to year after year.”
Many Christmas tree farms will open for the holiday season on Thanksgiving Day or throughout the weekend. Some farms offer pre-tagging services for families interested in reserving a tree to pick up at a later date. General Christmas tree details, in addition to contact information and social media links for each farm, can be found at www.mschristmastrees.com.
