TRAFFIC UPDATE:
MDOT crews reopen Jackson road closures
WHO: The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT).
WHAT: For the exception of the State Street on-ramp to Interstate 20 eastbound, MDOT crews reopened all Jackson-area roadways that were closed over the weekend in anticipation of flooding. The I-20 east on-ramp from State Street still has floodwater present.
WHEN: Monday, February 17, 2020.
WHERE: Reopened roadways include the I-20 interchange at State Street (for the exception of the on-ramp to I-20 eastbound), U.S. Highway 80 ramps at State Street, and Interstate 55 ramps and frontage roads at the Daniel Lake interchange. Other remaining closures include:
- Highway 27 from Bovina Cut-Off Road to Erve Road in Warren County
- U.S. Highway 80 at Mount Alban Road in Warren County
- State Route 427 at State Route 16 in Leake County
WHY: The Jackson-area road closures along I-55, I-20 and Highway 80 were implemented on Saturday in anticipation of Pearl River backwater flooding. Crews will continue monitoring conditions and addressing issues that arise.
HOW: “Although roadways are beginning to reopen in the Jackson area, motorists should continue to check traffic conditions prior to traveling,” said Central Transportation Commissioner Willie Simmons. “Please drive with extreme caution and remain on high alert for roadside crews out monitoring conditions across central Mississippi. Remember, never try to cross a flooded roadway or traffic barricade.”
