TRAFFIC ADVISORY:

Contraflow drill along Interstate 59 July 31

WHO:          The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT).

WHAT:        Contraflow drill. Stay updated with live travel information at MDOTtraffic.com or download the MDOT Traffic mobile app..

WHEN:        Wednesday, July 31 from 8am until 2pm.

WHERE:     (Corrected) Various locations on Interstate 59 from the Louisiana state line to mile marker 55 south of Hattiesburg.

WHY:          On Wednesday, July 31, MDOT will conduct a contraflow drill on Interstate 59 in South Mississippi. This drill will allow MDOT personnel to practice their plan before the peak of Hurricane season.

In the event of a severe tropical event would turn all four lanes of Interstate 59 traffic northbound. This would help the evacuation of the lower parishes of Louisiana as well as the coastal Mississippi during severe tropical events.

The contraflow drill will not involve actual lane closures or reversals; workers will be given assignments and instructed on where to take equipment that will be used in the exercise.
