Marjorie Anne McGhee, age 89, of Magee, MS, passed away on April 25, 2025, in Huntsville, AL.
Ms. McGhee was born on July 23, 1935, to Rev. Barney and Ludie Padgett in their home in Smith County, MS. She graduated from Kosciusko High School and earned her nursing degree from Gilfoy School of Nursing at Mississippi Baptist Hospital. She worked at hospitals in many cities, including Mayfield, KY, Jackson, TN, and New Orleans, LA. She worked at Magee General Hospital until her retirement.
She loved many people well, which was exemplified by her service as a nurse. She was an active member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed her dogs, traveling, crafts, reading, and gardening. She cherished time with family, especially trips to the Smoky Mountains.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Barney and Ludie Padgett; brothers, Edgar Holcomb Padgett and Bernett Padgett; and daughter, Beverly Cook.
Ms. McGhee is survived by her sister Mary Jean Padgett; daughters Rebecca Ranager and Elizabeth (Andy) Hughes; grandchildren Ronald (Nicole) Cook Jr., Joshua Ranager, Kelley Ranager, Emily (Garrett) Bosse, Anna Hughes and great-grandchildren Eliana Cook, Caden Cook, Journey Cook, Allison Bosse, Nathan Bosse and Andrew Bosse; sister-in-Law Betty Padgett; nieces Eileen (Tim) Cooke, Margaret (Paul) Sorenson and nephew John Padgett.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Magee, MS, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 and will be officiated by Rev. Jonathan Burnam and Rev. Tim Reed. Burial will be at Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Donations in her memory may be made to Pine Grove Baptist Cemetery, The Alzheimer’s Association, Gideons International, or Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.
Arrangements are entrusted to Tutor Funeral Home of Magee.
