Magee Board of Alderman met before a large crowd Tuesday, September 4, 2018. Minutes and claims docket were approved.
The following dates were approved for street closures due to parades: October 4, 2018 Magee Homecoming Parade, late in the day October 26 and all day October 27th for Crazy Day, November 9th for Veterans Day parade, and December 11, 2018 for Magee’s Christmas parade.
The board approved the 2019 fiscal year budget.
PrioirtyOne Bank is donating $10,000 toward the Senior Center project.
Southern Corrosion Water met before the board with an estimate on painting and making needed repairs to the city water tank. Prices were not disclosed due to the fact if needed to be bid no one would know available bid.
Rev. Gene with M.O.R.E. met before the board about the use of the community work center. Rev. Gene presented plans on how the center would be altered to make the previous cells transformed into apartment style rooms. The center would house female parolees. The parolees would arrive in groups of 5. The number of parolees would average 15-20 at a time. Citizens present were allowed to ask and discuss questions of concern with the board as well as M.O.R.E. The board requested a few more days for consideration of the project and would call a special meeting to announce the decision if to move forward with this project or not.
The board approved to hire Tommy Scoggins in the public works department.
In police matters, the board approved sending Matt Sullivan at a cost of $200 for continued education that is required in Field Training. The board also approved to send two dispatchers to a training on 911 homicide. The cost is fully reimbursable through the state.
The board is still in discussion about purchasing the park area adjacent to the old elementary school building. Park Director David Dunn presented the board with estimated cost of the high school field at the Sportsplex. The board tabled the decision until they could approach school board with fair price for property.
The board recessed into executive session to discuss personnel matters.
