The Magee Board of Alderman met Tuesday, September 1, 2020 for their regular scheduled meeting.
The city will apply for a grant to help replace and repair the roof at city hall. The grant is a 80/20 policy. The estimated cost for repairs is approximately $125,820. The board approved to apply for the SMP grant and amend the budget to cover the cost of the 20%.
Mayor Dale Berry asked Chief Randy Crawford for assistance from the police department to get a hand on the loud noises the motorcycles are creating late at night in the city. The majority of the noise is coming from the East Side area and the old elementary neighborhood.
The board approved for Chief Randy Crawford to attend the Chief’s Conference in Biloxi at the Golden Nugget on September 28-October 2, 2020. The cost is $325.00 plus lodging. The conference is reimbursable through the state.
Mayor Berry reminded the public it is illegal to drive 4-wheelers on public roads and to avoid using the all terrain vehicles in that capacity.
Mayor Berry advised the board he was working on cleaning the City of Magee. Several properties have been brought to his attention. Mayor Berry gave a status on some properties and asked the board to submit or advise him on any other locations that need attention.
Mayor Berry applauded Alderman 1, Patrick Brown, on Woodgate Community being one of the cleanest subdivision in the city.
Mayor Berry announced soccer registration has started. Applications may be pick up at City Hall. Registration runs through September 11, 2020.
Magee will be hosting the MAIS state Softball tournament at the Jimmy Clyde Sportsplex at the end of September. Berry reminded everyone the event draws a large attendance to the City of Magee for the weekend event.
The City of Magee’s budget will be ready to present to the board and public at the next board meeting. (September 15th)
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned to enter into an executive session to discuss personnel matters.
