Jerry Lee Hayes transitioned from this life to the next on December 22, 2017. He was born to Hozy and Addie “Bea” Thames Hayes on June 4, 1951, in Magee, Mississippi.
Jerry grew up in the Mary Grove Community and graduated from McLaurin High School in 1969. After attending Mary Holmes Community College in West Point, MS, he served in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Istanbul, Turkey.
On January 29, 1975, he united in holy matrimony with Esther Elaine McIntosh where they became proud parents of two children (Lorrie and Jeremy). Jerry retired from the United Postal Service after 41 years. He was highly recognized for his commitment and service to the United States Postal Service. Jerry enjoyed playing baseball, coaching and watching his son Jeremy play baseball as he grew up. He loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed bike riding with Lorrie, swimming and playing games such as Connect Four and Checkers. He was a proud supporter of the Magee Trojans Football Team and Band. Jerry enjoyed watching football as he was a New Orleans Saints fan. He loved his church family at Church Alive where he served on the usher board. Jerry loved people and he loved to laugh, but most of all he loved God.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Esther Elaine McIntosh Hayes; his two children, Lorrie Elaine Hayes Davis (Van) and Jeremy Titus Hayes; one grandson, Ethan Van Davis; his sisters, Etta Marie Smith (Archie), Anita Hayes Scott; his brothers, Arthur Hayes (Patricia), and Rudolph Hayes; many nieces, great nieces, nephews, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Ethan Matthew Davis; father, Hozy Hayes; mother, Addie “Bea” Thames Hayes; sister, Juanita Hayes Buchanan; brothers, Wilmoth Hayes, Truman Hayes, Aaron Hayes, and Clyde Hayes.
You will be dearly missed and forever remembered. We know you are in the hands of our “Good, Good Father.”
Visitation for friends will be held on Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at Tutor Funeral Home in Magee, MS from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Services will be held on Wednesday, December 27, at Church Alive in Magee at 11:00 a.m. with additional visitation from 9:00 a.m – 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Gregory Cemetery.
