James Jerry Glenn, 83 of Taylorsville, Mississippi passed away from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the University Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. He was born on Monday, August 4, 1941, in Laurel, Mississippi.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 125 Welcome Street, Taylorsville, Mississippi. A graveside funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Fellowship Cemetery in Taylorsville, Mississippi. Bro. Frankie Clark will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Taylorsville is in charge of arrangements. 601-785-6564
Jerry was a member of Taylorsville Methodist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle. He was a Master Mason at the Hiram Lodge #349 in Taylorsville, Mississippi and a member of the American Legion Post #85, where he served as President.
He was a 1960 graduate of Taylorsville High School. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army where he served our country proudly from 1960 – 1982. After retiring as a Master Sergeant, he returned home to service his county and all veterans as the Smith County Veteran Affairs Officer for 36 years. He served the citizens of Taylorsville as a member of the Town of Taylorsville Board of Alderman from 1989 – 1993.
He enjoyed cooking, fishing and hunting, attending Tartar sports, but most of all attending his grandsons’ sporting events. He will be greatly missed by all of his loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Asa and Birdie Perry Glenn; siblings, A.B. Glenn, Robert Lee Glenn, Currie Fred Glenn, Johnny Glenn, Billy Glenn, Carl Joe Enclade, Daisy Glenn Phipps, Onnie Mae Glenn Boykin, Bobbie Helen Glenn Newman, and Grace Glenn Tate.
Survivors include his loving wife of forty years, Rosalyn Hillman Glenn of Taylorsville, MS; one daughter, Jennifer Moore Cline (Chris) of Taylorsville, MS; two grandsons, Chandler and Collin Cline both of Taylorsville, MS; one sister, Peggy Glenn Matthews; a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Blaine Bo Eaton, Eric Jordan, Griff Kelly, Mac McAlpin, Joey Stringer, Trenny Walley, and Jimmy Dale Yawn.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Ainsworth, Jerry Evans, Gary King, Dennis Robinson, Burlon Thompson, and Teddy Walley.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice in honor of James Jerry Glenn.
