James Hiram Smith, 83, of Mendenhall, Mississippi, passed from his earthly home to his heavenly home, on Friday, August 23, 2019, surrounded by his loving family in Mendenhall, Mississippi. He was born Friday, May 15, 1936.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 26, 2019 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Mendenhall, Mississippi.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 26, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Mendenhall. The burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Bro. Frank Harman & Bro. Jay Wesbrooks will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall is in charge of arrangements. (601) 847-4401
Mr. Smith was a MP in the US Armed Forces for 3 years posted in Arlington, VA. He was ordained in the ministry at the age of 27. He was a minister of music for 57 years in various Simpson County Baptist Churches. Most people knew him from his 30 years of employment with Moorman/ADM Midland Feed Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram & Erna Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Billie Wanda Smith; Children, Terry James Smith and wife Janet, Wanda Gay Harris and husband Bob, Bettie Robin Prestwood and husband Stanley, Billy Hiram Smith and wife Amanda; Grandchildren, Samantha Graham, Layni Smith, Lacie Hebert, Linzi Adkins, Lorin Buteau and husband Rhett, Trey Touchet and wife Lexi, Ashly Harris and wife Janie, Aaron Harris and wife Meagan, Avery Harris, Maegan Blair and husband Justin, Chelsee Calvert and husband Jeremy, Kim Pittman, Kristi Magee and husband Tim, Blake Smith, Dylan Smith and wife Montgomery, Chantale Cook; 30 Great- Grandchildren; and brother, Benny Gerald Smith.
Pallbearers will be Ashly Harris, Aaron Harris, Avery Harris, Trey Touchet, Blake Smith, and Dylan Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Calvert, and Justin Blair.
