Miss. Senator Worked to Advance Miss. Agriculture, Rural & Nutrition Interests in Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.)  helped provide unanimous committee approval of funding legislation that would direct funding and support for agricultural and rural development needs in Mississippi.

Hyde-Smith serves on the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee, which drafted the FY2026 Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill.  The measure received unanimous committee-level approval, which clears the bill for consideration by the full Senate.  Unlike his Democrat predecessor, Republican Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) has vowed to bring appropriations bills to the floor for debate.

“I’m grateful that this agriculture appropriations bill is moving forward because of the Majority Leader’s intention to allow the Senate to take up and debate it.  I hope this return to regular order will mean we can enact a bill that will support agricultural production, research, rural communities, and nutrition programs in Mississippi,” Hyde-Smith said.  “Our Senate bill was written in a fiscally-responsible manner that addresses many of the priorities given to me by Mississippians involved in our state’s largest economic driver.”
