Friday night, May 18th, the Simpson County Sheriff’s Department hosted a night honoring fallen law enforcement officers from Simpson County at the Justice Court Building in Mendenhall.
Brother Charles Savell opened the program with prayer.
Featured speaker Brother Kent Yarbrough was introduced by Officer Rickey Thompson. Brother Yarbrough gave an inspiring speech on the lives of the fallen officers and the trials and tribulations of present day law enforcement and the dangers involved in protecting our citizens.
District Attorney Michael Guest, of Madison and Rankin county, gave a short speech on the importance of our law enforcement and the contributions they make to society.
Lt. Paul Mullins recognized the Fallen officers: Sheriff E. C. Mullins (March 20, 2001). Sheriff Lloyd Silas Jones (October 4, 1995), Deputy Sheriff James Boykin Barnett (June 26, 1990), Deputy Sheriff William M. Grubbs (July 14, 1986), Constable Wilson Charles Buffington (June 16, 1960), Constable Willis Bernice Herrington (April 13, 1951), Deputy Marshall Willis Washington Hemby (January 30, 1928), Deputy Sheriff Earl Nunnery (January 30, 1928), and Sheriff Eugene Dickson Hubbard (January 21, 1910).
Lt. Mullins gave an emotional speech on the effect the fallen law enforcement officials had on his life. Paul was a young policeman who saw to early in life death to his friends.
The Simpson County Sheriff Department did an excellent job in organizing the event.
