Governor Tate Reeves has extended the mandating of mask wearing under Executive orders 1508 and 1509.  Previously, the Governor had mandated the wearing of mask in 13 counties.  Monday, he extended the Safer at Home order to include 10 counties.  The ten new counties are:  Bolivar, Covington, Forrest, Humphreys, Panola, Sharkey, Simpson, Tallahatchie, Tate, & Wathall counties.  The executive orders have been extended for 2 weeks ending 8:00 AM on Monday, August 3, 2020.

The Safe at Home order mandates the wearing of mask while shopping and public gatherings plus restricts the number of people that can gather socially…a maximum of 10 indoors and 20 outdoors.

Governor Reeves is adamant that a statewide mask mandate is not the best plan.

COVID-19 is spreading and killing in our state. It is not a hypothetical, it is happening. Today, I’ve extended our executive orders to mitigate the threat—adding 10 counties to the list of those with stricter measures in place. We’ll discuss more at our 2:30 briefing today.

The counties are Bolivar, Covington, Forrest, Humphreys, Panola, Sharkey, Simpson, Tallahatchie, Tate, and Walthall. They join Claiborne, DeSoto, Grenada, Harrison, Hinds, Jackson, Jefferson, Madison, Quitman, Rankin, Sunflower, Washington, and Wayne. Take precautions—wear masks!

Governor Tate Reeves Extends Safe Return Order and Adds 10 Counties to Stricter Measures to Protect Public Health

JACKSON — Today, Governor Tate Reeves announced that he has extended his Safe Return and county-specific executive orders, adding ten counties under the tighter social distancing measures to help limit transmission and protect public health. Consulting with Dr. Dobbs and our state health experts, ten additional counties were identified as localized regions with spikes in cases and at higher risk for transmission: Bolivar, Covington, Forrest, Humphreys, Panola, Sharkey, Simpson, Tallahatchie, Tate, and Walthall Counties. They join 13 other counties that have been under the additional restrictions for the past week. “COVID-19 is spreading and killing in our state.
