Within a matter of 10 minutes, residents along the Jupiter/highway 540 road found their homes flooded. Rapidly rising water prevented many residents from any type preparation for what Strong River brought.

Due to recent massive rains, the banks of Strong River poured into low-lying areas at a rapid rate of speed. The river has not reached its cresting point.

Earlier in the day, livestock had been moved to higher ground in anticipation of an impending problem.

According to local officials, at least one foot of water is expected to make its way down Strong River to the D’Lo area.

Parts of Highway 49 are under watch for possible flooding and closure.

Supervisor Curtis Skiffer, along with deputies from the Simpson County Sheriff Department, County Emergency personal, Mayor John Henry Berry, and local work crews, worked diligently to assist residents.

The Jupiter/highway 540 road is closed and officials are unsure when the road will open.
