Fannie Jo Harvey Lack was born on September 2, 1934, in Collins, Mississippi. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Fannie Jo attended Southern College. She retired from the State of Mississippi’s Medicaid Department after 20 plus years of service as an office manager.
Fannie Jo was a faithful member of Calvary Presbyterian Church. She loved Calvary and was always ready to lend a helping hand whether it was teaching Sunday School, filling in on the piano, or serving with the women of the church.
Her love of church and family were the priorities of her life. How she loved her grandchildren! There were always fresh cookies and cakes on the counter for all her little ones.
Fannie Jo was the epitome of the hospitable Southern lady. If you visited her home, you would always be treated to coffee, tea, and poundcake. She made you feel welcome: as if you were part of the family.
Her love of gardening led her to join the Garden Club where she was an active member for many years. Her yard was her pride and joy. Each spring new plants would be added that filled her yard with vibrant color.
After retirement, Fannie Jo and her husband, James, were blessed to be able to travel. One of their favorite trips was to Alaska. She, also, added several overseas trips including Singapore, Morocco, Spain, and Portugal.
Fannie Jo’s life was spent caring for others. If her family needed her, she was there. If her church members needed her, she was there. There was always a casserole to be delivered or a hospital visit to attend to.
Those who knew her were blessed to call her mother, grandmother, or friend. Rest in peace, dear Mama Jo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Hugh Lack; father, Travis Lyman Harvey; mother, Addie Rutland Harvey; and a brother, John Lyman Harvey.
Survivors include one son, Doug Lack and his wife, Peggy, of Collins; two daughters, Rhonda Lack Grubbs and her husband, Mike, of Magee, and Allison Lack Jowers of Vidalia, Louisiana; seven grandchildren, Tara Robinson, Tayler Whittaker, John Reed Robinson, Stephen Lack (Anna Catherine), Kendal Lack, Anna Claire Jowers, and Madison Grubbs; five great-grandchildren, Carson James Whittaker, Peyton Blakely Harlow, Reese Ashlan Harlow, Jaxon Grubbs, Sadie Felder, Hodson Douglas Lack, and Shellie Lou Lack; and a host of other family members and friends.
