Eudean “Jack” Ates, 91, of Magee, Mississippi, passed away from earthly home to his heavenly home on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at Merit Health Wesley in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He was born Saturday, July 28, 1928, in Magee, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 3, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee, Mississippi.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 4, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. The burial will follow in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Chris Garcia will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. (601) 849-5031
Jack joined the Navy when he was 17 and spent 20 years serving his country through WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Upon retirement, he moved back home to Magee. He worked at the Universal Plant, a part-time mail carrier and served Simpson County as a Deputy Sheriff for 17 ½ years under Lloyd Jones.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mannen and Zora Mangum Ates; two brothers, Morris V. Ates and James M. Ates.
Survivors include his loving wife of seventy-two years, Faye Nell Ates of Magee; one daughter, Diana Ates Mills and husband, Jesse of Magee; three granddaughters, Janet Mills Runnels and husband, Kevin of Mize, Jamie Mills Wedgeworth and husband, Benji of Soso, and Jessica Mills Bridges and husband, Keith of Ellisville; four great-grandchildren, Bailey Wedgeworth, Lauren Runnels, Austin Wedgeworth, and Allyson Bridges; one sister, Vermell Ates Mangum and husband, Billy Ray of Richland; one sister-in-law, Ruth Ates of Covington, LA; and a host of other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Masonic Brothers.
