Emma Jo Calhoun passed away on Monday, June 5, 2017, in Ridgeland, MS, at the age of 89.
Emma Jo was born on November 2, 1927, in Puckett, MS and was the youngest daughter of the late Robert and Letha Benton.
Known as Jo, she grew up and lived in Puckett, worked many years at Lloyd’s Style Shop in Mendenhall, MS and prided herself as a homemaker and devoted wife to Thomas Ray. They were married for 65 years prior to his death. Jo was an active lifetime member of Puckett Baptist Church and was known for her baking, particularly her cakes.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Ray Calhoun and her granddaughter, Holly Marie Calhoun Miller.
Survivors include her two children, Keith Calhoun of Madison, MS and Kim Calhoun of Mills River, NC; brother, Clyde Benton of Savannah, GA; grandchildren, Weslea Bell, Jonathan Davis and Joseph Davis; four great-grandchildren, Chapel, Addison, Stella and Samuel.
Jo was fortunate to have been surrounded by many extended Calhoun and Benton family members and cherished these beloved connections.
Visitation will be at Puckett Baptist Church, on Friday, June 9, 2017, from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. with services following at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Alvin Doyle will officiate. Jo will be laid to rest along-side her husband in the Puckett Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Puckett Cemetery Fund.
Arrangements are entrusted to Tutor Funeral Home of Magee.
