Ellis Welland Thornton

October 11, 1954 – November 8, 2025

Ellis Welland Thornton passed away after living a long and hard-fought life. He is survived by his fiancée, partner, caregiver, and love, Kathy Padgett and family whom were by his side through it all. His son Joshua Thornton and his cherished granddaughter Leah Thornton; and his daughter Ashley Thornton. His beloved sisters, Inez and her husband Walker, and Francis Pittman. Along with numerous nieces and nephews whom he adored. Ellis is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Nannie Thornton, his brothers Garland Dale and Kendall, and his sister Willa Faye.

Ellis proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for four years, spending part of his service stationed in Germany, a place he grew fond of. A man of resilience and determination, he was unapologetically politically incorrect and steadfast in his convictions, never wavering in what he stood for. He loved the simple joys of life—being out on the lake in his boat, sitting on a porch anywhere, watching the sunset, and listening to music.

Ellis lived life on his terms, without question or hesitation, bringing laughter and joy wherever he went. He was quick with a joke and loved to make people smile. His presence was as warm as a summer sunset, and for those who knew him, there was always a bit of Jack [Daniels] close by.

He will be remembered fondly and missed deeply by all whose lives he touched.

Visitation with the family will be held at 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. on November 12, 2025 at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 302 8th Avenue Southwest in Magee. Graveside services will follow at Magee City Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Jay Barr, David Sawyer, Anthony Tuggle, Chris Tuggle, Danny Via, Todd Shows.
