Simpson County Supervisors, Police Officers, emergency personnel, and county work crews enjoyed a demonstration from Southern Pine concerning electrical safety.

Jamie Arender a representative with Southern Pine along with help from Magee’s own native Chad Pierce, explained the hazards concerning down electrical lines.

Arender warned just because an electrical line is on the ground does not mean it is dead. In order for the line to be dead it must be grounded on both ends.

Arender advised crews during storms while cutting trees to be mindful of your surroundings  when dealing with electrical lines and never take it for granted.

Southern Pine has developed a trailer with a simulation of power lines, houses, and transformers. The demonstration shows how fast a life can be lost if one does not follow the proper procedures and use the correct equipment when dealing with electricity.

So, remember during the storm just because a power line is lying across the road does not mean it is not still active! Be wise and do not cross!
