What a fun and fabulous time I had Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at the home of Suzanne and Mark Grubbs.  Suzanne is probably one of the top cooks in Magee.  In fact, Suzanne is actually a Home Economics Major from USM!

Kim McNulty, Suzanne’s neighbor, joined us for the filming.  Well, we three girls had a ton of fun and learned how to make a pie crust plus a mimosa!

The video is long…but so worth the watch!  Just sit back make a mimosa and watch Suzanne perform!

Never Fail Pie Crust (2 crust)

3 cups flour

1/14 cup shortening

1 T salt

1 egg (well beaten)

5 T water

1 T vinegar

Cut shortening into flour and salt.  Combine eggs, water and vinegar.  Our liquid into flour mixture all at once.  Blend with a spoon till flour is all moistened.

Roll out

May freeze or use following chilling

Suzanne gives great tips on the video as to preparing the crust.

Enjoy!

This is the pecan Pie recipe that Suzanne uses. The recipe is in the original Bells Best Cookbook. I have since made this pie several times and always works and is delicious!

The rolling pin Suzanne recommends is called a French rolling pin, and you can purchase on on Amazon!  It would make a great gift for a baker in your life. Another wonderful gift option would be a fluted pie pan similar to the one Suzanne used in the video.  It’s an easy way to make the pie pretty!

Of course, you should definitely consider her favorite pie plate at Williams-Sonoma!

Don’t forget a pastry mat to make rolling the dough easier, and a scraper to help lift it up as well!

Merry Christmas!
