Conviction of Defendant Sam Hales of Sexual Battery and Gratification of Lust

Daniel C. Jones, District Attorney, announces the conviction of Defendant Sam Hales of Sexual Battery and Gratification of Lust in Jasper County, Mississippi.

Paulding- District Attorney Daniel C. Jones announced that on Wednesday, the 12th day of August 2015, a Jasper County (1st Judicial District) trial jury found Sam Hales, 56, of Paulding, guilty of sexual battery and gratification of lust after deliberating forty-eight minutes. The jury was composed of six women and six men while the racial make-up of the jury was all African-American.

District Attorney Jones stated that “ADA Stephanie Breland-Wood and ADA Chris Hennis did an excellent job in trying the case”.  DA Jones further stated that “sexual predators will continue to be prosecuted here in the 13th Circuit Court District by my office, and we will not relent until we have driven them out of our communities.”

Defendant Sam Hales was convicted of sexual battery and gratification of lust and therefore will be sentenced by Judge Eddie H. Bowen on the 28th day of September, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Jasper County Court House in Bay Springs, Mississippi.

District Attorney Jones went on to say that his office “prosecutes criminals without passion, prejudice, improper influence, political standing, financial standing, or regards to race” and it is his duty to “ensure that justice will be served with each and every case [his] office handles.”

Daniel C. Jones represents the 13th Circuit Court District which includes Covington, Jasper, Simpson, and Smith counties.
