Conservative Men’s Meeting welcomes Taggart and Clarke

The Conservative Men of Simpson County held their monthly meeting Tuesday night, July 30, and welcomed state-wide candidates Andy Taggart and Senator Buck Clarke. Andy Taggart is seeking the position of Attorney General and is in a primary against State Treasurer Lynn Fitch and Rep. Mark Baker.

Taggart spoke on his commitment to fight the opioid epidemic in Mississippi and stand for conservative values. Also, State Senator Buck Clarke, who is running for State Treasurer spoke to the group about his run.

Clarke has served as the Senate Appropriation Chairman for the past 8 years and touted his revival of the “rainy day” fund.

Along with those candidates, many local officer seekers were in attendance of the event as well. Many spoke to the group and asked for their vote on August 6th. Check out the pictures below of some local politicians stumping for election!

Keilah and her mother are pictured with a mural of a family member by the name of Jerry Grubbs. Jerry Roe Grubbs, age 20, of Mendenhall, left for Vietnam in early March 1968. Jerry was a paratrooper with the  101st Airborne Division. He was a member of First Brigade, Bravo Company with the 327 Infantry Division. Just 6 weeks after leaving Simpson County he was killed in a huge firefight.  All in, his particular unit were killed with Jerry being the last.  He was 21 the day his body got back to the states. Jerry received a Silver Star, Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
