Washington, D.C. – The impeachment managers for the U.S. House of Representatives delivered the articles of impeachment for Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to the U.S. Senate.

Congressman Michael Guest (R-Miss) was instrumental in the House Committee on Homeland Security’s yearlong investigation into Secretary Mayorkas’s failed leadership that led to the current crisis at the southwest border. As one of the impeachment managers, Congressman Guest helped deliver the articles of impeachment to the U.S. Senate.

Congressman Guest stated: “Secretary Mayorkas has failed in his responsibilities to secure our southwest border, leading to a true border and immigration crisis in our country. House Republicans are holding him accountable through impeachment, and the Senate must now conduct the trial in accordance with constitutional procedures. I’m honored to be one of the impeachment managers who will work with the Senate to hold Secretary Mayorkas accountable.”

After the yearlong investigation, the House of Representatives voted to impeach Secretary Mayorkas for high crimes and misdemeanors. The House found that he willfully and systemically refused to comply with immigration laws and breached the public trust in his handling of the unprecedented crisis at America’s southwest border.

Background:

Over 8.7 million people have illegally crossed into the United States since Biden took office in 2021. This is nearly 3 times the number of people who live in Mississippi.

In 2023 nearly 300,000 people illegally crossed into the borders of European countries, and in December of 2023 alone more than 300,000 people crossed the Southwest border of the United States. More illegal immigrants crossed the Southwest border in one month than crossed into Europe in the entire year of 2023.

The number one issue facing Americans today is immigration and border policy. President Biden is 33 points underwater for his handling of immigration and failed border policies.

Since October 2023, there have been over 1 million illegal immigrant encounters.

January was the 35th straight month where monthly illegal immigrant encounters have been higher than even the highest month seen under President Trump. Additionally, 28 percent of Americans think immigration has become the number one issue Americans are concerned about – the highest in Gallop polling history.

In January 2024, nine more individuals whose names appear on the terrorist watchlist were stopped trying to cross the U.S.-Mexico border between ports of entry. Since FY21, 340 of these individuals have attempted to cross our Southwest border illegally.

So far this fiscal year, CBP has arrested 11,958 aliens with criminal convictions nationwide, including 157 known gang members, 24 of those being MS-13 members.

Last month, encounters along the busiest sector of the Northern border, the Swanton Sector, increased 59 percent compared to the previous January and over 2,000 percent compared to January FY22.

According to Monmouth University Poll released at the end of February, 6 in 10 see illegal immigration as a very serious problem.
