Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael Guest (R-Miss) voted today to advance H.R. 7521, the bipartisan Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act. H.R. 7521 passed the U. S. House of Representatives by an overwhelming majority of 352-65, 1.

The bill would require ByteDance, a company affiliated with the Chinese government, to divest its ownership of TikTok—a popular social media app—to a company not controlled by a foreign adversary or risk losing access to their American users.

Congressman Guest stated, “Putting an end to Chinese Communist Party influence in our everyday lives is important for the security of our nation. We must remember that the CCP is not our ally.”

Congressman Guest previously introduced legislation banning TikTok from Department of Homeland Security devices.
