MAgee Board of Alderman voted Tuesday, June 16, 2020 during their regular scheduled meeting to lift the curfew that has been in effect immediately.
City Hall will observed Friday July 3, 2020 for Independence Day. All offices will be closed and there will be no garbage collection. The City will host a fire work display at the sports complex staring at dusk on the 4th of July. The firework show should last approximately 25 minutes.
Trustmark National Bank was awarded the lowest bid for the $142,000 water repair loan.
The board approved hiring an individual for an assessment on what repairs, replacements, and additions are needed at the city playground. Once the assessment is completed, grants will be applied for to obtain funding for the project.
The city will be trimming weeds and overgrown vegetation around all traffic signs in the city. Anyone that would like to report a sign that needs cleaning around, please call City Hall to report the sign location.
Back Flow Water Preventers can be purchased for a cost to $200.00 to eliminate the back up of water into homes.
Danny McLaurin, with Greater Love Fellowship Ministries, met before the board to inquire about property located at the old satellite prison. Mr. McLaurin would like to entertain the idea of purchasing property to move his program that is now being housed in D’Lo.
The City accepted the resignation of City Prosecutor Chris Purdum. The board will look at naming a replacement at the next boar meeting in July.
Main Street paving project was awarded to J & L the lowest bid. The alley behind the police station will be repaired at the same time as the Main Street project.
The new Senior Citizen building located at the old YMCA is ready to be open pending final inspection by the Board of Aldermen.
Mayor Berry reminded all tree trimers must be licensed to complete work within the city.
Mayor Berry announced garbage pickup has returned to two days a week.
Mayor Berry advised the city was in great financial shape to date. Even through the COVID 19 pandemic, the city is $114,00 over last years sales tax collection year-to-date.
