The City of Magee held a hearing on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at 5:30 p.m.at City Hall Court room concerning the possible street closure of Pine Wood street located in the Biglane Heights subdivision.
Residents of the subdivision were present voicing concerns if the road was opened to McNair Springs. The residents felt the opening of the road would put the children living in the subdivision at risk.
Robert Pierce spoked on behalf of the residents. A main concern was that if a road is developed large trucks from the neighboring water manufacturing company could access the road causing damage to their streets and putting the children’s safety at harm. A concern over motor bikes and ATV’s were an issue as well. The residents are concerned the street would serve as a cut off for people to gain access to the local convenience store (located on Highway 49) increasing traffic in the subdivision.
John Locket and Terrance Norwood spoke to the board on behalf of Bridge Pointe Church requesting access to the street. John Locket is a minster at Bridge Pointe Church. Rev. Lockett told the board he is the one responsible for this hearing. Lockett has a vision to grow his church and purchased land that adjoins Biglane Heights subdivision and McNair Springs Road. Lockett and Norwood were requesting access and to use Pine Wood Street located in Biglane Heights subdivision, as an avenue for access to their property. Norwood asked the board “to give the church the opportunity to be good neighbors” and do not deny access to the street. Norwood asked the board to consider “is it moral, is it wise, is it legal, and is it ethical.”
After hearing from both sides on the matter, the hearing was closed. A board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2020, where the matter could be considered and a decision made by the board.
