(August 21, 1937 – October 18, 2022)
Charles D. “Hop” Blakeney, 85 of Taylorsville, Mississippi passed away peacefully from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at his residence in his favorite chair. He was born Saturday, August 21, 1937, in Taylorsville, Mississippi.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church at 125 Welcome Street, Taylorsville, Mississippi.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Taylorsville, Mississippi. The burial will follow in Clear Creek Cemetery in Taylorsville, Mississippi. Dr. Frankie Clark and Bro. Anthony Grayson will officiate. Special music will be provided by Mrs. Mary Barron Jordan, Mrs. Mary Lou Robertson, and Mrs. Gwen Creel. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Taylorsville is in charge of arrangements. 601-785-6564
Hop was a member of the First Baptist Church of Taylorsville. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He served his country in the United States Army National Guard. He served as a Board of Supervisor for sixteen years. Those who met Hop will always remember him. His last day on earth was spent delivering food to people as he has always done. He enjoyed spending time helping others, watching and supporting his family while they played Tartar sports, and most of all spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all of his loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marie Bryant Blakeney; father, Gail Blakeney; mother, Louise Keene Blakeney; brothers, Thomas “Tom” Blakeney and Dick Blakeney; and sister, Joyce Blakeney Prine.
Survivors include his two sons, Larry Blakeney (Marilyn) of Taylorsville, MS and Harry Blakeney (Susan) of Hattiesburg, MS; one daughter, Jana Blakeney Pasillas (Willie) of Terry, MS; four grandchildren, Chris Blakeney (Chauncey) of Puckett, MS, Ashleigh Blakeney Stringer (Brandon) of Stringer, MS, Carlee Blakeney of Hattiesburg, and Hannah LeBlanc of Terry, MS; three great-grandchildren, Nolan Blakeney of Puckett, MS, Decklyn Stringer of Stringer, MS, and Denton Stringer of Stringer, MS; one brother, John Billy Blakeney of Taylorsville, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Pallbearers will be Eric Jordan, Wesley West, Brandon Stringer, Brad Boykin, Bo Eaton, and Blake Blakeney.
Honorary pallbearers will be Hulon West, Charles Holder, Donald Yelverton, and Tony Blakeney.
