2017-2018 Homecoming Queen: Ms W Bunt
Homecoming Court:
The afternoon began with the Hurricane Pep Rally. For the 10th year Magee’s Jr. High Band and Cheerleaders performed before the Boswell family of individuals, staff and volunteers. As always, their program brought much joy to everyone and contributed greatly to the excitement of the day. Although the Boswell Regional Center Homecoming is only in its 3rd year, it follows in the tradition of the old Sanatorium homecomings going back to the 1940s. In fact, our campus will celebrate its 100th Anniversary on February 4, 2018. This year’s maids exhibited a beauty and enthusiasm that would rival those in any homecoming court in America. This is due to the efforts of our maid sponsors and community supporters, especially Angie Berry and Dr. Rudy Runnels. Congratulations to Ms. W. Bunt of Pell City, Alabama on being selected the 2017 BRC Homecoming Queen. Following the Homecoming festivities, the 13th Annual BRC Fall Ball kicked off under clear skies on a pleasant 75 degree afternoon. Simpson Academy coaches Marney Walker and Winston Mullins brought a powerful ground attack that left the Hurricanes feeling more like a tropical depression. The Cougar’s C. Cockrell kept the Hurricanes chasing his shadow during the first half. Cockrell’s two touchdown runs of 40 and 55 yards behind the blocking of D. Drennan almost put the game out of reach. Second year Hurricane head coach James Randolph and assistant Milton King were able help the Hurricanes regain their strength after an interception by W. Tselepis. In the ensuing tilde wave W. Turnage and S. Backs scored the game’s two final touchdowns in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter. Hat’s off to the Simpson County Academy Cougars for once again proving they’re heroes both on and off the field of sports. During the day’s events Jennifer Chennault and the BRC Nutritional Services Department served pink lemonade at the Breast Cancer Awareness booth. Carla Nichols was the lucky winner this year’s door prize.
