Bonnie Jones Allen, 82, a former resident of Jackson, Pearl, and Ridgeland, Mississippi, passed away on November 4th, 2024.
Bonnie grew up in Magee, Mississippi, and was the daughter of SV and Mildred Jones. She attended Magee High School and was later married for forty-nine years to Charles L. “Winkie” Allen. Winkie and Bonnie attended First Baptist Church for many years. After Winkie’s death, Bonnie worshiped at Brandon Baptist Church.
Bonnie’s first job was working before and after school in the family store in Magee. She was later employed by and retired from the Mississippi Forestry Commission.
At the age of 79, Bonnie learned to play pool. She loved improving her game and aspired to be a pool shark. She and Winkie were both loyal Mississippi State fans, and their support never waned, even in the lean years for the Bulldogs.
Bonnie was a sharp dresser and even in her eighties many of her friends commented on her sense of style, as well as her sweet personality. Bonnie was never one to sit still and valued her independence to the end. She made many special friendships as she enjoyed her retirement years in both independent living and assisted living. She also enjoyed the live music events offered in these facilities.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Allen, her parents, SV and Mildred Jones, and her sister, Bettie Pierce. She is survived by her sister, Johnnie Hastings of Wilmington, NC, her niece, Patricia Roberts of Madison, MS, and her nephew, Charles Roberts (Lauren Wilton) of Milford, MA.
The family would like to thank the staff of Summerhouse Beau Ridge Independent Living and The Orchard for loving on Bonnie over the years and always looking out for her. We are extremely grateful for Traditions Hospice of Ridgeland for their care of Bonnie for the past six months.
Graveside services will be held at Magee City Cemetery on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 10:00 AM.
Arrangements are entrusted to Tutor Funeral Home of Magee.
