The Simpson County Board of Supervisors voted Monday, July 1, 2019 not to extend the Salt Dome a credit for 2019. Mississippi Hub requested a reduction in taxes for 2019, but the Board of Supervisors did not approve the reduction.
Mississippi Hub states the valued property is $100,000,000 dollars. An increase from last year’s tax base from new growth and taxes will generate a higher true value of $33,000,000. The new tax will change millage rate to 5,000 generating more revenue for county. (For additional information about the MS Hub request see video below)
Acting Sheriff Greg Reynolds requested and was granted approval for membership dues to be paid for the United States Police Canine Association for Joe Andrews and Hero in the amount of $50.00. The board approved for the KATS program for the department K-9’s.
The board approved the ratification of grant application for the MEMA technology. The $5,000 grant was due 6-26-2019.
Approval was granted to advertise in the Simpson County Academy Football Program with a full Ad page in the amount of $120.00. Advertisement was approved in the Harper Vocational High School Alumni Reunion Souvenir Booklet in the amount of $100.00 for a full-page ad.
The board approved payment to Hancock Bank for two John Deer Cab tractors. Refinance bids will be announced on July 15, 2019.
Buddy Wolverton updated the board on State-Adie and Federal Aide projects. STP-0392(6) Mt. Zion to Shivers Road (resurfacing) is awaiting funding. All documents have been mailed to State Aid on June 20, 2017. ERBR-STP/BR-0064 – Heed Neely Road (Bridge), the contractor has been issued notice to proceed July 8, 2019. LSBP-64(22) – Jake Barnes Road (Bridge), Contracts are ready for Board President signature. SAP-64(15)M – Saratoga-Sharon Road (Bridge Rehabilitation), final bridge inspection has been requested. ERBR-64(01) – Star Braxton Road ( Bridge Rehabilitation Project), Contracts have seen sent to contractor for bonds and insurance. ERBR-64(02) – Rockport – New Hebron Road (Bridge Rehabilitation Project), Project is advertising. Bids will be opened Monday, July 15, 2019 at 9:00 a.m.
Simpson County Board of Supervisors reminds the public all county offices will be closed Thursday, July 4, and Friday, July 5, 2019 in observance of the Independence holiday. The scheduled board meeting is set for Monday, July 15, 2019 at 9:00 a.m.
