Dan Ainsworth calls himself the Wilderness Preacher.  In fact, he has a blog by that name (click here).  His blog is fascinating and a great read.

I had no idea what was going on just outside of Magee on Airport road at the home of Dan and Stacy Ainsworth until I received a call from Stacy’s mom, Betty Ann Stubbs.

Betty Ann began telling me about a log cabin Dan was building “all by himself” in a barn behind their house that would then be moved to Colorado.  Well, I thought, “really, Betty Ann”…now who could or who would build a log cabin and then move it!!! But, Betty Ann was telling the truth!

Last week, Patrice and I were privileged to visit Dan and get a tour and first-hand account of his plans.

Dan is truly a gifted individual.  He told me that God blessed him with the ability to read and understand…and he wasn’t joking.  Dan’s adventure really began years ago…about 37 in fact…but he didn’t know where the first step was leading him.  Thirty-seven years ago, Dan planted pine trees on his land.  Thirty-seven years later, he had the pines cut and began preparing for the building of his log cabin.

“When I planted those pines, I had no idea I would one day have then cut and personally build a house with the pines…but God knew,” stated Dan.  I believe God has been with Dan every step of his journey.

Several years ago, Dan went to Colorado on a hunting trip.  He fell in love with the area and the people.  What was a “hunting trip” became a mission…assisting the people in the area at two church camps.  Can’t you just see Dan…he comes to the camp (he had heard they needed help following a natural disaster)… and says I am here to help.  The people asked him what he could do.  He told them he was pretty good with a chain saw.  The rest is history.  He has spent several years helping in the area.

Back to the cabin…(there is so much to tell!!!) Dan has the trees cut and then “reading his book on how to build a cabin” …he begins!  He hand strips the trees…he hand notches the logs…he does everything by hand!  Dan has built the first floor of his cabin which will be loaded…log by log…and taken to their “other” home in Colorado.  When the “logs” arrive, Dan will reassemble the first floor. He is taking extra logs to be used on the second floor as well as “special” logs to be used for the entrance and handrails.

Ya’ll, I could just go on and on…but really, you need to look at the video plus check out his blog.

He is in the process of taking bids on trucking the logs to Colorado.

Each log in their home will have been handled with love.  Their home will truly be built on love.

I have never known anyone quite like Dan.  I don’t think I’ve been in the presence of someone who is so smart…so gifted…and so dedicated.  Nothing is stopping Dan from reaching his dream.

I can’t even imagine the hours this project has taken.  I can’t even imagine the dedication.

No dream is too big for Dan.  I do love meeting someone who dreams and makes that dream happen.  Blessings on Dan and Stacy as they begin the project in Colorado.

The picture of the mountains are what Dan and Stacy will see out their windows!

The picture of the cabin is what his cabin will look like but without the blue…a different color…now, Dan built the bottom level in Simpson County!!!  The top floor and basement will be constructed in Colorado.
