(Jackson, Mississippi) Attorney General Lynn Fitch today announced the sentencing of Darryl Powell of Columbia, Mississippi who was investigated and prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office for Child Exploitation.
On May 8, 2023, Powell was sentenced by Marion County Circuit Court Judge Prentiss Harrell to serve a term of forty years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections with ten years to serve followed by five years of post-release supervision for one count of Child Exploitation. In addition, Powell must register as a sex offender. Upon forensic examination, AGO investigators found over 1,800 images and videos of child sexual abuse.
“My top priority is protecting our state’s most vulnerable citizens,” said Attorney General Lynn Fitch. “I am grateful my team was able to proactively identify, investigate and prosecute this perpetrator.
