I had the pleasure of visiting with Phil Buffington on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, when he stopped by MageeNews.com to talk about his campaign for Mississippi State Auditor.
Phil is a lifelong Mississippian and a graduate of Ole Miss and Mississippi College School of Law. He and his wife, Sarah, are proud parents of three grown children—Phillip (Lauren), Avery (Matt), and Will (Kat)—and grandparents to five “wonderful” grandchildren.
For more than 40 years, Phil has worked with community banks, financial institutions, and businesses, dealing with financial regulations, compliance, and accountability.
Now, when I heard the words “holding people accountable,” he had my attention!
I think most of us are tired of political talk that doesn’t give us straight answers. We want honesty, transparency, and people who are willing to do the job they are elected to do.
One thing that stood out to me during our visit was Phil’s enthusiasm. He genuinely seemed excited about running for State Auditor. This man wants the job!
I hope you’ll take a few minutes to watch our interview and get to know Phil Buffington.
The race for State Auditor is shaping up to be an interesting one, with several strong candidates entering the field. I look forward to welcoming other candidates to MageeNews.com and giving each an opportunity to share their ideas with our viewers.
Stay informed, listen to the candidates, and make your own decisions. That’s what these interviews are all about!
