Hugh Dilmore, newly appointed Public Works Department head, hit the road running!  Hugh has only been on the job for a few days but has definite plans for our city.  Dilmore is replacing Department Head Nevis Rankin who is retiring at the end of the year.  Nevis and Hugh will work together until the end of the year.

Dilmore told the Aldermen at the October 6, 2020 meeting that one of his pet peeves is the City Barn. (see main picture)

“The barn did not get in this kind of shape in a short period of time…it will take awhile to get cleaned…but we will get the barn cleaned,” stated Dilmore.  Hugh explained that he really doesn’t know what is junk and what is equipment…but he will!

DEQ is an area that Hugh plans to study and ask questions.

Dilmore asked permission from the City Board and Mayor to explore the use of “cold patch” for repairing pot holes.  Hugh pointed out that one of the advantages of “cold patch” is the ability to have materials on hand to repair any needed pot holes and not be required to wait for a truck load of hot asphalt that must be distributed in one day.

Three positions are open in the Public Works Department.  Calvin Williams was hired at the meeting for one position.  In the future, the board has requested that Mr. Dilmore review resumes and make recommendations to the board on hiring.

Alderman Whitney Baker requested that the city works department look into repairing yards when city work has been done on a home owners property.  Dilmore stated this would not be a problem and he would be glad to see the work area is repaired.

The board approved Bobby Applewhite of the City Works Department to attend continuing education program October 26-30th.
