At approximately 2:45 Friday afternoon, January 3, 2020, an 18 wheeler traveling north on Highway 49 veered off the highway at the bridge to avoid a wreck at the bottom of the hill. In serving, the truck hit a black SUV and crossed the south bound lane traveling down the steep embankment coming to rest at the bottom of the hill.
The truck was carrying 20,000 lbs of US Mail. The trailer was not damaged nor did the trailer flip.
Walker Brothers wrecker service worked for several hours to upright the cab of the truck and slide the trailer down the hill preventing the trailer from over turning.
The driver and man in the sleeper were not injured but due to company policy would not be interviewed.
The Magee Fire Department was on scene to assist in case of a diesel fuel spill.
