The mother of Jared Padgett has filed a $150 million federal lawsuit against deputies with the Simpson County Sheriff’s Department and the department itself, following her son’s death in 2023.
According to the lawsuit, Padgett died after being tased and shot by responding deputies. The filing alleges that officers used excessive force during the incident and claims Padgett was in need of medical assistance at the time.
The complaint, filed April 1 in the U.S. District Court in Jackson, alleges violations of Padgett’s civil rights. The lawsuit represents the claims and perspective of the plaintiff and has not yet been adjudicated in court.
