Co-Lin women’s tennis team No. 3 Academic Team of the Year

WESSON – The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has announced that Copiah-Lincoln Community College's women's tennis team is the No. 3 Academic Team of the Year. The women's team has finished in the top 12 the last 12 years.


"We are very proud of these student-athletes and their accomplishments," said Co-Lin President Dr. Ronnie Nettles. "We take tremendous pride in our student's academic and athletic success."


The Co-Lin women's tennis team, coached by Holli Pepper, recorded a 3.6 grade point average. Members of the team are Mary Catherine McDonnieal, Katie Beth Case and Meagan Neal, all of Brookhaven; Nicole Magee of Magee, Heather Huff of Gloster, and Rosa Young of Crystal Springs.


In additions, the men's tennis team, baseball team, and women's soccer team, also received Academic Team of the Year honors in their respective sports.


The Co-Lin men's tennis team earned Academic Team of the Year honors ranking No. 4 in the nation among men's tennis teams with a 3.19 grade point average. The Wolfpack, coached by Mike McIntyre, has finished No. 1 in 2002, 2005, 2007 and 2008; No. 2 in 2004, 2006, and 2009; and No. 3 in 2003. Members of the team are
Guillermo Chaves and Nico Osorio, both of Bogata, Columbia; Reed Rodgers of Vicksburg, Reilly Miller of Brookhaven, Joey Shelton and Colby Bass, both of Bude; Levi Weeks of Monticello, and Jon McLeod of Mendenhall.


The Co-Lin baseball team tied for No. 16 Academic Team of the Year in baseball with a 3.02 grade point average. The Wolves, coached by Keith Case, have placed in the Top 20 the last 10 years. Members of the 2010 team are Seth Avants and Brett Rushing, both of Bogue Chitto; Chris Fink and Ryan Kennedy, both of Wesson; Edmund Cheatam of Terry, Bud Britt, Drew Weaver, and Zach Williams, all of Brookhaven; Preston Edwards, Daniel Jenkins, Kendall Logan and Matthew Freeman, all of Natchez; Jeff DeBlieux of Houma, La.; Ryne Tutor of McCall Creek, Luke Brumfield of Roxie, Ben McDowell and Cable McMinn, both of Meadville; Andrew Lee of Brandon, Connor Oakes and Tyler Reeves, both of Monticello; Mitch Tidwell of Canton, Taylor Ort of Denham Springs, La., Marshun Hall of Moss Point,Tyler Hue of Pierr Part, La. and Patrick Ferguson of Clinton.


The women's soccer team was the No. 17 Academic Team of the Year in women's soccer with a 3.10 grade point average. Members of the team include Damien Cliburn of Lawrence County, Julie McKay, Heather Philips, Jaime Benge, Katie Stewart, Terri Hodges, Shannon Thompson, Lindsey Duckworth, and Holli Smith, all of Brookhaven; Samantha Roberts and Ariel Patterson, both of Summit; Jessica Haynes, Britney Cannon, Keri Faith Johns, and Dallas Jackson, all of Wesson; Sabrina Whatley of Richland, Marlee Hahn of Crystal Springs, Whitney Reynolds of Liberty, Haley Vaughn of Natchez, and Ena Peebles of Port Coupee, La.
