Joe and Joyce-----together for 50 years!
Joe and Joyce Barnes are celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary Saturday, June 26th at six o'clock at the PriorityOne Bank Training and Conference Center located at 223 Main Avenue North in Magee.
Please come! Joe and Joyce want to share this special time in their life with all their friends and family!
Joe and Joyce were married June 5, 1960. They began dating their junior year at Magee High School. Following graduation from USM the couple returned to Simpson County…and I don't think they ever left!
For three years, Joe drove a Standard Coffee truck. He worked for an insurance company for about 4 years…even worked at Universal…then at international Harvest until 1968.
In November of 1968 Joe and Joyce opened a Sears store on Main Street…and well, as people say…the rest is history! In 1977, Joe built the building next to the Piggy Wiggly where he worked until closing the business in April of '93.
Joe nor Joyce are stay at home folks…so they began a "second" life with the Simpson County School system. Joyce was the Career Center Director for 15 years. Joyce retired in 2007….but now Joe…he just keeps on working. He is the courier for delivery of in house mail with the county school system.
The proud parents of three children, 5 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren, Joe and Joyce stay busy keeping up with 8 busy grands!
Just guess who sang at Joe and Joyce's wedding 50 years ago? None other than Magee's own Carolyn Stephens! I bet she could still sing at the anniversary party!
The couples first date was following a Trojan football game…and they are still following the Trojans.
