Part Two
This time he turned his car and focused his headlights on the place where the reptile was last seen entering the grass and weeds near the church steps. Arming himself with a bick stick, he approached the spot boldly but causiously, getting a glimse of a moving form slowly making its way to a hiding place under the steps. Mr. Horn prepared to land a stroke that was calculated to not only halt it but to end its existence forever. Just at this juncture he heard a boyinsh giggle from behind the steps. This caused Mr. Horn to hesitate for a moment. The giggle increased to hearty laughter. Mr. Horn realized that he was the object of a huge joke at the hands of the playful boys of the town. The snake was nothing more than a couple of old, stuffed stocking being dragged across the street by a dark string. Mr. Horn dropped his stick, hung his head, and walked away to his waiting family in the car while the boys enjoyed a healthful laugh.

I love these wonderful stories of the history of Magee. Thank you so much for printing them. Lacy Gray Horn was my grandfather. I had never heard the "snake" story.
