Thank you Josh Sullivan for stepping up and taking a stand.  I hope others in our "world" will do the same.
Distracted Driving Law
Imagine driving behind someone who is swerving from side to side. For many years, we would assume that person is drinking and driving, but now, there is a growing problem that is just as deadly - distracted driving and more specifically, the use of a cell phone while driving.
The use of cell phones has become an overwhelming problem in our culture and is injuring and killing people every day. According to distraction.gov<http://distraction.gov> , "18 of injury crashes in 2010 were reported as distraction-affected crashes." They also report, "Drivers who use hand-held devices are 4 times more likely to get into crashes serious enough to injure themselves." This is alarming and a very serious matter.
Across the country, states are passing laws to ban cell phone use - from texting and driving to cell phone use without a "hands-free" device.
Mississippi is one of ten states remaining without such a law. It's not because we haven't tried. One senator in particularly has presented a bill each year for the past 5 years! Many in legislation see this as a controversial bill, but an overwhelming majority of citizens ask, "Why don't we have this type of bill already?"
I am asking for your help to pass an upcoming bill, which will make our roadways safer for everyone. This bill may mean you don't take a call right away or LOL another time, but it will mean that your destination and the destination of others is not the ER.
So how exactly can you help? First, make a personal commitment to stop using your cell phone while in the car or at least texting and driving. Secondly, please take 2 minutes to complete our survey. You can find it here: http://bit.ly/MissDistractedDrivingSurvey. Your feedback is absolutely invaluable.
Thank you for your commitment to safety and making our roads safer.
