On the 27th of August 2011, I went to the Jackson VA Hospital for an appointment with my Primary Care Provider, who happened to be a Nurse Practitioner. I was having problems breathing and   experiencing heaviness in my chest, I just couldn’t put my finger on what was going on.  After being examined, All I was told to do was lose some weight, I waited in the front Lobby, as I rode the VA Hattiesburg Bus and when I got up to go to the bus I almost hit the floor.  I got home, and that night I got out of my recliner and my legs started to buckle, the next thing I knew I was on the floor looking up at the ceiling.  I called my Brother-in-law, Mack Harrison to come over & check on me.  I was back in my recliner and I remember sleeping that night in my recliner, as I didn’t want to hit the floor again.

The following morning, I contacted a local physician that I had been referred to, Dr Karen Bruce, the most through Dr I have been examined by.  I checked to see if I could be a walk in and so I went to see her. Upon her examination she immediately put me in the Magee General Hospital.  Upon arrival to the Hospital, I was met by two Nurse Techs, and an RN.  The two Techs helped me to undress and to get into a Hospital gown.  The RN was asking me about my Medical History. For about an hour my hospital room looked like Grand Central Station, there was Lab Techs drawing Blood, X-Ray Techs, all were working on me.  It was hard to keep up with what was going on but their method of working on me was amazing to watch how everyone knew what they were to do, and on top of everything, they never stopped treating me with respect and dignity.  I had been admitted for Congestive Heart Failure, and still the Hospital Staff really took my mind off of how bad I felt, and for that I am truly grateful and will never forget them.

The following morning Dr Bruce came in on her rounds and discussed my medical condition.  She had the weekend off and she told me that a Dr Charles Pruitt would be on call and would be making medical rounds. The following morning Dr Charles Pruitt was making the medical rounds and when he came in to check on me, I found Dr Pruitt to be a most friendly individual, I observed he had care and compassion, and in his bedside manner, he calms all the anxiety you may have.

Later on in the week Dr Bruce thought I could go home.  I was lined up for Physical Therapy.  I had been there for three treatments when I felt something going on and the receptionist recommended I go to the ER and see a Dr of which I did.

I was readmitted to Magee General Hospital, except this time I had Congestive Heart Failure, along with Pneumonia I was treated  by different staff members, but I found them to also work as the other staff just a couple of weeks earlier had done.   Along with Respect and Dignity all the times, I have never seen so many people smile so much, as they worked on me.

I’ve been in and out of other Hospitals for the past 30 years, Jackson VA, Wayne General, and South Central Hospital, Along with Forrest General Hospital. I have not seen one bad apple at Magee General Hospital.

Every other Hospital, at times, I would hear certain employees complain of other workers, certain things like they were not getting as much pay as other workers. I have never heard any employee say one bad word against another employee at Magee General Hospital.  I have been in and out of Magee General Hospital sense August 2011 all most once every month.

I had started watching just how many individuals I had interacted with, any employee that actually came into my Hospital room for some reason or another.  I started getting their names and to tell the truth, I became friends with some of them.  I totaled the amount of the individuals, starting with the Doctors, then the Nurses, the Blood Lab Techs, the X-Ray Techs, The Nurses who are in Special fields, the Nurse Techs who are now specialists who run tests like Cat Scans and MRIs and the other Departments, such as Physical Therapists.  Then you have other support Personal such as  workers in the Dietary Dept, Maintenance Dept, Ladies in the business offices, Individuals that are Volunteers that bring coffee, soft drinks, and they each are nice enough to ask you How do you feel today?  The average patient doesn’t think about how many employees you have interaction with each day. While I was in there, I interacted in one stay with 148 employees.  It is amazing just how many Magee General Employees that each patient sees while their stay in the Hospital.  You could almost say that Magee General Hospital and Staff are Magee, MS’s greatest secret.

Magee General Hospital is slowly building up Service to offer the people of Simpson County.  They have a Dr John Cobe, Orthopedic Dr that comes down from Jackson, MS, they also have  Urologist, Dr John Adams that comes down from Jackson and then we have a Cardiologist, Dr Josh Blair that comes up from the Hattiesburg Clinic.
I have seen and have been treated by each one and I have to say they definitely contribute to the high quality of Health Care you expect from a topnotch Hospital.

I have lived here in Magee, MS sense 2009 my first rental House was out in the country. Now I live in the City of Magee in an Apartment Complex.  I have come to know my Neighbors. I feel like it was in God’s plan for me to move here.  I feel like this is where I’m going to live for the remaining part of my life that I have left.  I really feel fortunate to have moved here because of the quality of life I’ve found.

Dr Karen Bruce and her Staff, along with Magee General and Its Staff Is something that everyone in Simpson Co and the surrounding area should be very proud of having such a Professional Medical Group is here to call on, any time of the day or night.

One of the people I have not mentioned is Ms Althea Crompton, CEO of Magee General Hospital, she carries a heavy load in watching and making sure that things run efficiently and also
working with the Board of Directors. I have not had the pleasure of meeting her in person, but I have talked to her on the phone.  I feel I will be meeting her in the near future. I hope I have said everything I wanted to bring out.

The next time you’re in the Hospital, or in the Emergency Room, pay a little attention to the entire Hospital Staff, You may be surprised at what you see & how good you feel.

                                                                         Sincerely

                                                                         James E. Jim Ford
