Lt. Gov. Reeves Visits Children’s Center at Southern Miss

The Children’s Center for Communication and Development at The University of Southern Mississippi received a special surprise when Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves stopped by for a visit on Tuesday, July 10.

Reeves spent time visiting several classrooms and learning more about the unique services provided by The Children’s Center.

"The staff and board of The Children’s Center were honored to have the Lieutenant Governor take the time to meet some of the families and children we serve and tour our state of the art early intervention facility,” said center Director Cindy Bivins. “Lt. Gov. Reeves clearly has an appreciation for how important early intervention services are for Mississippi’s youngest children with disabilities and how important The Children’s Center is in helping increase exemplary services throughout our state."

The Children’s Center, a United Way agency, opened its doors in 1974 and currently serves approximately 80 children from the South Mississippi area. The center provides an interdisciplinary team approach to the assessment and treatment of communicatively and developmentally delayed children (birth to 5 years).
