Jackson, MS—Mississippi counties will share $1,099,999.92 of funding for election assistance from the Help Mississippi Vote Fund and the newly created Elections Support Fund.

"With funding from the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) diminishing, counties statewide face significant revenue shortfalls to conduct elections across the State," says Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann. "This $1-Million dollars will help fill the gap left from the federal funding."

The Help Mississippi Vote Fund was created in 2006 by the State Legislature from funds generated from Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) filings with the Secretary of State's Office. State law requires funds from the Help Mississippi Vote Act be spent on elections. Help MS Vote Funds are distributed equally among all 82 counties.

The Elections Support Fund was recently created by the State Legislature from funds generated by annual report filings from out-of-state Limited Liability Companies (LLCs). State law requires these funds be expended for elections maintenance and proportionately distributed by population.

"In lean budget times, our counties need all of the assistance they can get to run Mississippi's elections," says Secretary Hosemann. "We are pleased we had these funds saved up for their use now that HAVA funds are running out."

Attached is a list of the distribution amounts by county.
