Mary Layton Beard Maddox, 70, of Brandon, formerly of Magee, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at the University Medical Center in Jackson. She was born in Simpson County, Mississippi on April 17, 1942.

Mary graduated from Magee High School and the University of Southern Mississippi where she received her Master's Degree in Secondary Education. Mary taught Home Economics at Brandon High School for 29 years. After retirement she worked as a hostess at Brandon Baptist Church where she was a member.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Estus and Jewel Layton of Magee. She is survived by one daughter, Tara Beard Bristow Olmsted and five grandchildren, Todd Ralph Olmsted, Andrew Dylan Olmsted, William Leighton Bristow, Benjamin Carson Bristow and Victoria Robbins Bristow. She has one surviving sister, Becky Layton Womack.

Visitation will be held at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, Saturday June 9, 2012 from 4-8 pm. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, June 10, 2012 at 2 pm at the Brandon Baptist Church with burial in Brandon Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the Brandon Baptist Church Building Fund, 100 Brandon Baptist Drive, Brandon, MS 39042.
